Building a Strong America, One by One - The Doctor Inside You

One of the most patriotic things you can do is to become impassioned with taking responsibility for your health.  No, I’m not talking about getting yearly check-ups or mammograms or a periodic colonoscopy.  I’m talking about taking steps to actually be your own doctor.  For the everyday upkeep, for yourself and your family, addressing your health needs as an individual and monitoring the bodies of your children is what I’m referring to.

It’s not arrogant; it’s smart.  Many doctors would agree.  The medical system is now fraught with and overwhelmed by patients with either very minor maladies or problems that could have easily been avoided, had the patient seen the warning signs and taken action.  For instance, many people are far too willing to take an antibiotic.  For what?  For ear infections, for colds, for acne, for urinary tract infections.  Sure, sometimes antibiotics are what is needed.  But for the routine infection, they are practically useless, if not harmful.  What if you knew what to do to treat your own sinusitis or vaginal yeast or bladder infection?

That is what we teach at the Southern California Institute of Clinical Nutrition.  Given protocols for prevention of illness and disease, a person, a parent is empowered to control, to a large extent, the health of himself/herself and family.  One thing we suggest is Bio Terrain testing.  It is an in-home urine test that can help determine the nutrient needs and deficiencies of the individual: Vitamin C, calcium, antioxidant activity, electrolyte levels, liver and kidney function, and how stress effects the individual.  With the information and results of this specialty test, the proper foods and nutritional supplements can be assessed and customized for each person.  This is the first step toward knowing what nutrients you and your family really need.

Another important step is finding a nutritionist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, or naturopath who you trust to guide you.  Create a team with this person.   Address your high blood pressure, obesity, blood sugar imbalances, allergies, asthma, ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder), digestive problems, menopause on your own, with this team.

This is the ultimate empowerment -- where we – in the grass roots, can be in control.  It all begins with balanced bodies and minds.  The thing is – balance is individual – it’s not a test score, it’s not a category, it’s not a diet – it’s what makes you feel great and vital.  Do you know what that is?  Some do; some don’t.  Some people are already on their way to finding out – right now.  They are taking responsibility to research, try, and utilize more natural products and modalities to turn around their own health.

You are the only one who knows how you really feel; and you are the only one equipped with the ability, once given the proper information, to monitor your needs and prevent disease conditions.  Medications are but a mask.  Address the source of your health problems and allow the body to do what it was designed to – to create balance and a vital, exuberant life.  We are powerful and resilient beyond our wildest dreams.
